What is Social Responsibility?

The World Business Council for Sustainable Development defines corporate social responsibility (CSR) as:

"the continuing commitment by business to behave ethically and contribute to economic development while improving the quality of life of the workforce and their families as well as the local community and society at large."

Wikipedia defines social responsibility as:

"an ethical or ideological theory that an entity - whether it is a government, corporation, organization or individual - has a responsibility to society."

Put more elegantly, social responsibility simply means giving back.

The Beaupre Social Responsibility Practice helps companies build authentic, socially aligned business initiatives. We help our corporate clients carve out distinctive social cause positions, starting from within.

We also collaborate with not-for-profit organizations at a local, regional and national level to educate, differentiate and ultimately increase public support.

The following video, created by the Skoll Foundation, gives an overview of social entrepreneurship initiatives done in the last 30 years. Leaders from Acumen Funds, Skoll Foundations and entrepreneurs like Mohammad Yunus offer their point of views about the opportunities in this area.
